The Challenge
Independent artists and boutique galleries struggle with high intermediary gallery commissions, fragmented exhibition discovery, and complex manual auction inquiries that alienate prospective contemporary art collectors.
The Solution
A specialized art marketplace platform engineered with React.js, Firebase authentication and real-time state synchronization, and a Node.js/MongoDB backend managing catalog indexing, artist portfolios, and collector inquiry flows.

The Challenge: Modernizing Art Acquisition for Independent Creators
The traditional art world imposes heavy friction on contemporary artists and independent galleries: exorbitant commission structures, opaque pricing, fragmented exhibition schedules, and manual back-and-forth inquiries that deter new collectors from making acquisitions.
Scaena Studio needed a dedicated digital platform to democratize curated sales: presenting contemporary artworks with gallery-grade visual precision while managing structured inquiry, private viewing, and transaction workflows without the administrative overhead of traditional brick-and-mortar operations.
Engineering Solution: Hybrid Real-Time & Relational Marketplace Architecture
I engineered the Scaena Studio platform using a high-performance stack that pairs React.js on the frontend with a hybrid Firebase and Node.js/MongoDB architecture:

- Immersive React.js Exhibition Interface: Built a fluid, high-resolution browsing interface allowing prospective collectors to inspect brushwork, view curated thematic exhibitions, and filter pieces by medium, size, and artist portfolio.
- Hybrid State & Data Architecture: Leveraged Firebase Auth and real-time state synchronization for active client sessions, real-time inquiry statuses, and artwork availability alerts, combined with Node.js and MongoDB for structured catalog indexing, historical transactions, and collection metadata.
- Structured Inquiry & Acquisition Workflows: Built streamlined collector reservation and inquiry funnels that replace ad-hoc messaging with structured buyer-seller communication and verifiable checkout flows.
- Curator & Artist Management Suite: Engineered a comprehensive administrative dashboard enabling gallery curators and artists to manage inventory, upload high-res imagery, adjust reserve valuations, and track collector engagement.
